KIDS Bharatanatyam CLASSES

Kids classes at Prayukti foster a fun, open-minded attitude toward learning a traditional art form. Our faculty loves working with children and guides them with patience and creativity. Rather than imposing a rigid curriculum from the get-go, we nurture the unique artistry in every child by teaching them about rhythm and musicality through activities and movement exercises. This intuition for dance will build to a Bharatanatyam repertoire over time.
Kids classes at Prayukti are offered in sessions throughout the year, and are limited in size and frequency. Parents can sign up below and will be notified when the next batch/term is about to commence.
Prayukti Kids Dance Batches
Ankura (Sprouts) – Ages 4–6
Our youngest group explores rhythm, coordination, hand gestures, and expression through playful movement and stories. Classes nurture confidence, joy in dancing, and the first seeds of Bharatanatyam vocabulary.
Kusuma (Blossoms) – Ages 6–8
This stage connects play with structure—building rhythm awareness, simple adavus, and musicality, while still encouraging creativity and storytelling through movement.
Pushpa (Flowers) – Ages 8–10
Here, students focus more on form and technique. They develop precision in adavus, learn the building blocks of bharatanatyam, simple choreography as a group, and experience how discipline and creativity flow together in Bharatanatyam.
Phala (Fruits) – Ages 10–12
At this stage, students strengthen stamina, detail, and expression. They explore longer sequences, repertoire, abhinaya (emotive storytelling), and begin to approach the form as both a personal and ensemble journey.
adult bharatanatyam classes

Adult classes are designed, in equal parts, to teach Bharatanatyam technique and promote an overall healthy lifestyle. Classes incorporate yoga and bodyweight strength modules, along with Bharatanatyam technique training.
We want to keep the art form relevant and inclusive to modern students. Beyond the physical, classes also periodically include discussions on the historical, social and philosophical contexts of Bharatanatyam. Students can expect a safe environment to discuss their personal viewpoints/experiences and listen to others’.
New students can enroll in adult classes at any time.
Prārambha (Beginnings) – Adult Beginners
This batch is designed for adults who are new to Bharatanatyam or returning after many years. With a focus on foundational adavus, rhythm, and body alignment, classes offer a welcoming environment that builds confidence and joy in movement. Emphasis is placed on understanding structure and developing stamina step by step.
Unnati (Growth) – Intermediate Adults
At this stage, dancers refine their foundation while building repertoire. Students explore longer sequences, begin integrating abhinaya (expression) with technique, and experience choreography that develops musicality and stage presence. The curriculum balances discipline with exploration, helping each dancer progress at their own pace.
Siddhi (Mastery) – Advanced Adults
Advanced classes are for committed dancers ready to challenge themselves with complex nritta, nuanced abhinaya, and deeper study of repertoire. Focus is on clarity of thought, stamina, and intent—preparing dancers for solo or group performance opportunities. Classes also encourage critical thinking about finding individual identities within dance
If you are continuing student of Bharatanatyam looking to pursue intermediate/advance level training at Prayukti, please send us a video of yourself dancing using the following guidelines
1. Length of video : 2-5 minutes
2. Must be recorded within the last 3 months
3. Can be informal practice video shot on phone. No costume, make up necessary
4. Has to be pure nritta (A jathi / alarippu would be ideal)

Performance Opportunities
Students must be enrolled in a class to participate in group performances, where they learn to connect classroom training with the larger experience of the art form. For solo opportunities, students work through one-on-one coaching, which allows for personalized guidance, deeper focus, and refinement of both technique and expression—ensuring they are well-prepared to present themselves with confidence on stage. More advance dancers will be given opportunities to be a part of the Prayukti Collective ensemble group.
